My career path has taken a winding route. My work as a Web Designer, Visual Designer, Digital Art Director and UX Design Lead have all given me a holisitic perspective of the many facets and disciplines within my industry.
I actively demonstrated an aptitude and mastery of layout, typography and visual hierarchy within the digital landscape. I performed every function from coding HTML / CSS emails and websites to writing copy to designing websites, ads, apps, presentations, visualizations and everything in between. I've worked with award-winning agency teams to create campaigns that have made the world stand up and take notice.
As my role and responsibilities evolved, I had the opportunity to guide the entire creative process from concept to completion; I provided creative strategy to agency teams for client pitches and presentations, created thoughtful branded designs for responsive sites and digital campaigns, established creative direction and brand standards documents for agency clients, and led small teams of 1-3 designers through the design and implementation process.
When I transitioned from Art Direction into UX Design, I built on my foundational understanding of design with a new set of tools and methodologies, including Competitive Audits, Stakeholder and User Interviews, Brainstorming, Usability Testing, Concept Testing (among others); my deliverables include wireframes, audit analysis spreadsheets, sitemaps, prototypes and many more. I've had the opportunity to lead small teams of 1-3 designers and researchers in industries as diverse as Healthcare, Retail and FinTech.
A well-rounded designer, like any professional, draws from an arsenal of experiences and skills learned beyond their job title. I've had the opportunity to step out of the design realm from time to time and gain experience in other roles, including:
As a Senior Product Designer, I work with multi-disciplinary teams to establish measureable and impactful goals which are mindful of both the end user and the broader product vision.
I am accountable for the design quality, consistency and cohesion within my product team, and I work to evangelize the role of design organizationally. I work to create and strengthen relationships within my team as well as other disciplines and departments
Brand standards, pattern libraries and design systems are my special interest; my university emphasis in English has given me a lifelong interest of creating organizational languages, categorizing and identifying design systems throughout my career. I'm adept at identifying patterns, establishing consistency and hierarchy, and creating relational documentation. I work with Material Design, Atomic Design and more.
A career in design is an endless opportunity to exchange ideas, skills and new ways of engaging with the work we do. I've had the opportunity to tutor students individually and in small groups, and I've worked with organizations (like SVC) to facilitate professional learning opportunities. I actively encourage all members of my team to share their skills, and recognize the valuable contribution of every member on the team, regardless of rank.
Working in conjunction with UX Researchers, I've assisted identifying and recruiting research participants for ongoing testing projects.
I have extensive experience interviewing business owners, stakeholders, strategists and users during the research and information gathering process, and I capture and retain the the verbal and written feedback.
Additionally, I’m experienced at conducting team member interviews, and have been on interview panels and calls for UX and Visual Designers, UX Managers, as well as design team / technical team candidate screening calls.
Working directly with digital agencies and teams, I interpret the worlds of branding, digital design and content, stepping into varied roles and teams with ease.
My experience spans a number of areas of the digital realm, and I am happiest when immersed in thoughtful technology solutions with collaborative teams influencing and evolving the design and creative development process.
